Na Pali Reflections

The sheer, raw beauty of the Na Pali Coast is where I discovered the true spirit of Hawaii. Long before Captain Cook arrived, this was the landscape so loved by its original Polynesian inhabitants. The dramatic cliffs come right down to the sea, abruptly slicing off at the shoreline - the sight is heart stopping and it is hard to fathom that the madness of Honolulu is so close. I rose very early not wanting to miss the dawn peak, and as I set off along the beach a vague reflection of the moon still shimmered faintly in the ocean. The waves broke so gently as they brushed the shore they barely made a whisper. I watched and waited as the sun began her daily light show. Under a backdrop of drifting clouds, the cliffs transformed into a kaleidoscope of color and their perfect reflections into the glassy ocean completed the magic.
