Walking along the deserted shores of the Freycinet Peninsula, I came across this classic old rowboat stranded on the beach. It was just begging to be photographed, its weather worn timber hull allowing me a perfect composition. I shot a series of horizontals and then decided to try something different. I stopped the lens right down and focussed sharply on the boat, using the rest of the scene as a softer backdrop. When I saw the results I was blown away. The boat is so sharp it practically jumps out of the frame! The vertical composition and the perfect contrast of colour create a simple, yet incredibly powerful image.
