Settlers Meadow
South Australia, Australia
The beautiful purple flowers that fill the foreground of this shot are actually a noxious weed known as “Patterson’s curse.” It is lethal to horses and cattle, and a scourge to the farmers, but it makes for a gorgeous photograph! After camping out under the shelter of these spreading gums, I rose very early, because I wanted to work with the morning light and shadows to create the effect I was looking for. As the sun gradually illuminated the tips of the blooms, and the shadows crept away, I captured this beautiful image of a country morning.Â
