Orpheus Island, Australia
First light on the tranquil island paradise of Orpheus on the Great Barrier Reef, and the days first rays brush the horizon with a delicate touch. This is one of my favourite places in the world, and I really wanted to create an image that encapsulated the true feeling of peace and harmony of the island. I used a long exposure, which I knew would turn the gently coursing waves into a surreal blanket of mist. The beautifully rounded boulders in the foreground have been smoothed from hundreds of years of crashing waves and they rise from the shallows like guardians of the beach.
