Fire Dance

Traditional sugar cane burn-offs are becoming a rarity in Cairns. I knew it was harvest season and drove around the fields in anticipation of witnessing such an event. In the distance, I saw the farmers preparing for a burn-off and flew to the scene. The timing was perfect as I wanted the flames to contrast against the twilight skies. As the fire gathered momentum, so did I. Smoke filled the air; the sugarcane cracked and heat roared overhead. As the inferno peaked, I pressed the shutter again and again, loaded with adrenalin. In a matter of seconds the fire subsided, and I knew I had a ripper.
