Every Summer in Provence, an explosion of purple spreads for miles over the rolling hills of the French countryside.
After spending weeks shooting the classic areas of lavender in Valensole, it was time to explore some less traveled roads and really search for the true spirit of this iconic paradise. Persistence paid off when this farmland scene opened up with a timeless view down a hidden dirt path.
Low cloud cover added the perfect element to set the stage. It was time to shoot — and listening to the sound of the shutter along with the background humming of thousands of bees was something I’ll never forget. Golden hues from the setting sun added another dimension over the rows of lavender. The tree was like artwork — adding a strong focal point that required careful composition. The colors changed by the minute, constantly creating a new scene — truly one of Mother Nature’s most spectacular sights to see!
